Theme: Parent/Whānau Engagement
Welcome to our first ever Grow Waitaha Meetup, being hosted by the team at Marshland School, Te Korari St, Marshland. This month the Grow Waitaha team has been developing resources on the theme of Parent/Whānau engagement and so we’ve decided to make this the focus for our first Meet Up. The event is open to all schools and their communities, so if you have some board members or parents who would like to join us they would be most welcome. It’s free, but we do need you to register.
What is a Meet Up?
Meetup is the world’s largest network of local groups. Meetup makes it easy for anyone to organise a local group or find one of the thousands already meeting up face-to-face. More than 9,000 groups get together in local communities each day, each one with the goal of improving themselves or their communities.
Meetup’s mission is to revitalise local community and help people around the world self-organise. Meetup believes that people can change their personal world, or the whole world, by organising themselves into groups that are powerful enough to make a difference.
The Grow Waitaha Meetup is an informal opportunity to share ideas, interests and questions about the development of education in Canterbury. Each month we will aim to have a Meetup in a different place, with a new overarching theme. You can help co-create these opportunities.
How will the Meet Up work?
Thanks to Marshland School for hosting our first event. Here is our prototype programme:
4.00pm: Gather for a welcome and setting the scene for the Meetup. Refreshments will be served during the evening.
4.30pm: Marshland School and Avonside GHS will share some of the ways in which they have involved parents in learning design, and lessons learnt.
5.00pm: You will have an opportunity to move around the school, ask questions of presenters and share ideas with others in an informal setting. There will be members of the Grow Waitaha team available to talk about upcoming programmes and opportunities as you continue to share food and great company
5.45pm: Gathering for any final questions or comments.
How do we register?
• If you are not a member of meetup.com you will need to register, but there is no cost involved. Once you have done this you can access other events in your local area and beyond. It is a great way to learn what other groups exist beyond education.
• The direct link http://meetu.ps/s/.0/f2JrR/f will take you to the Grow Waitaha Group. This is where we will be advertising future events.
• The other way you can register is by emailing email@example.com with the subject line of Grow Waitaha Meetup.
We do need to have registrations for catering purposes so please provide contact name, school and mobile.
This is a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues and continue to grow together. If you have questions or would like to host a future event, please email us.
