Grow Waitaha Roadshows are back for 2020 with a new format. Still for teachers by teachers, this year sees the roadshow visit 4 different schools, with each school sharing on a particular kaupapa. Our Roadshows focus on learners at the centre of change.
Come along to hear:
- How a school is effectively using innovative practice and what this looks like across the school
- Practical tips and strategies for engaging all learners
The roadshow format will be similar to past years:
- Held after school
- Meet and greet with kai
- Interactive workshops based on themes and/or year levels
- Opportunities to connect and collaborate
Our first roadshow for 2020 is hosted by Hoon Hay School, Te Kura Kōaka.
The theme for this roadshow is Effective learning in mathematics.
At Hoon Hay Te Kura Kōaka, they have a mixed ability, problem-solving approach to maths teaching and learning, with a focus on maths talk (talk moves).
Teachers across the school will share their practical strategies, systems, and resources that they use to support an innovative, student centred maths programme.
Their focus is on every child having the opportunity to succeed and seeing themselves as learners.
Hoon Hay was featured as a case study in the Education Review Office publication Teaching Strategies that Work: Mathematics. Many of their approaches are based on the research and work of Jo Boaler and Dr. Roberta Hunter. We’re excited to have you join us for this interactive, informative session.
